How Red States Tiptoe Around Trump’s Wreckage

A recent opinion piece in the Washington Post and similar analyses highlight that proposed budget cuts from the Trump administration could disproportionately impact "taker states" like Kentucky. The state receives a significant portion of its budget from federal funding, particularly for programs like Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). These potential cuts could have a direct and substantial effect on women and children in Louisville and across Kentucky, impacting social services, education, and healthcare. The article and related reports suggest these policies are causing anxiety and could negatively affect the state's most vulnerable populations.

Louisville groups receive millions to combat homelessness

en local agencies in Louisville are receiving $4.5 million in funding from the Bezos Day 1 Families grant, distributed by the Coalition for the Homeless. The money will be used to combat family homelessness by funding programs like rapid rehousing, transitional housing, and family shelter expansion. The grants come at a crucial time, as many of Louisville's family shelters have been full for months, forcing families to sleep in unsafe places. The Coalition for the Homeless, which received a $5 million grant in November 2024, planned and allocated the funds to help agencies like the Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, and Volunteers of America.

10 organizations granted $4.5 million to fight family homelessness in Louisville

Ten Louisville-area organizations have received a combined $4.5 million grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund to combat family homelessness over the next four years. The funding will support various initiatives, including rapid re-housing, expanding family shelters, transitional housing, and case management. It will also help with housing barrier assistance for families. The grant aims to provide comprehensive support for families, who made up nearly 2,000 of those who received homeless services in Louisville in 2024.goes here
